Joe Hoffer grows a full produce lineup on Mitchell County ground outside Beloit — beets, carrots, sweet corn, cucumbers, eggplant, onions, pears, peppers, pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, and melons, most of it available U-pick. The stand runs cash or check, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It's the kind of one-family operation where the guy who answers the phone is the same guy who planted the rows.

Insane Paine Produce

Luke Paine has run Insane Paine Produce on 20 acres in Topeka since 2011, opening each spring with greenhouse tomatoes and hanging baskets.
