Monkowski Farm sells choose-and-cut and pre-cut Christmas trees off Donkey Mill Road in Holualoa, grown without pesticides, along with fresh boughs and free tree trimmings for wreaths. It's a small, family-run seasonal operation on Hawaii Island's coffee belt above Kailua-Kona.

Honaunau

Lions Gate Farms grows 100% Kona coffee and macadamia nuts on 15 acres in South Kona, on the slopes of Mauna Loa, with heirloom coffee trees more than eighty years old processed in a mill dating to 1942. The Kona Coffee Farmers Association certifies the coffee as 100% original. Free farm tours let visitors crack their own macadamia nuts and sample tropical fruit grown on-site; open daily 9am-5pm off Highway 11 near the 105-mile marker.

Beyond Organic Consulting works with home gardeners and commercial growers on Hawaii Island, using soil analysis to raise the nutritional content of food crops. Director Jana Bogs wrote the company's own reference book, "Beyond Organic: Growing for Maximum Nutrition and Flavor," and the firm offers one-on-one consulting alongside educational videos out of its Kailua-Kona office.
