Grant Farms Farmstand

Grant Family Farms put Wellington on Colorado's organic map: founded in 1953 by CSU professor Lewis Grant, it became the state's first certified organic farm and grew into one of the country's largest CSA operations, serving about 4,500 members and 150 vegetable varieties at its peak. Hail, drought, and mounting debt forced a Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2012, with a later attempt at the CSA closing for good in 2017.

Herman Produce

Renee and Bruce Herman started this farm stand in 1991 after moving from Florida, and it's been a fixture on Elberta Avenue in Palisade for over 30 years. The signature product is Palisade peaches, alongside other seasonal fruit and vegetables, canned goods, jams, salsas, and honey. Open daily, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., June through October.

James Ranch Market

James Ranch in Durango's Animas Valley runs on regenerative practices that produce 100% grass-fed and finished beef, truly raw grass-fed artisan cheeses, pastured eggs, vegetables, flowers, and Colorado blue spruce trees. The on-site James Ranch Market is open daily and the table-on-the-farm Grill serves ranch-raised ingredients, alongside live music, yoga, self-guided tours, a farm school for kids, and lodging with valley views.

Laughing Buck Farm

Despite the name, Laughing Buck Farm isn't a produce stand, it's an educational, all-abilities farm about six miles north of Old Town Fort Collins offering riding lessons, a farm school, therapeutic riding, and seasonal camps. The nonprofit arm, Friends of Laughing Buck Farm, runs scholarship programs so cost doesn't keep kids out of the barn. It's built around hands-on learning: horsemanship, gardening, and farm chores.

The Old Fort

The Old Fort at Hesperus, Colorado — 16 miles southwest of Durango — is Fort Lewis College's 501-acre agricultural campus, training future farmers for arid mountain environments through the Farmers-in-Training program, a business incubator field, and a ranching apprenticeship. The public can join the weekly CSA, shop the Fort Lewis College farm stand and Country Store, and visit for tours and events on land steeped in Southwest history.

Two Roots Farm

Basalt, CO

Running since 2016 on Sopris Creek Road in Basalt, Two Roots Farm grows organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers without chemical pesticides or herbicides, using biodynamic compost and crop rotation instead. Produce moves through a CSA, an on-site farm stand open Fridays from late May through October, and a handful of local restaurants. They also do wedding and event flowers, full-service or a la carte.

Uncompahgre Farms is a first-generation regenerative ranch in Montrose, Colorado. Founded in 2019, the farm was built on three goals: improve the land through regenerative agricultural principles, raise animals with respect and gratitude, and reconnect people to their food and each other. We raise pasture-based beef, lamb, eggs, and milk using rotational grazing practices that support soil health, animal welfare, and resilient ecosystems while producing nutrient-dense food for our local community.
