This two-acre demonstration plot at NTBG's McBryde Garden on Kauai shows what a breadfruit-based food forest can produce, planting banana, pineapple, and spinach in the gaps between 23 mature breadfruit trees. Established in 2017 by the Breadfruit Institute with funding from the Hawaii Department of Agriculture and Patagonia Provisions, the plot yielded more than 6,000 pounds of food in 2020 alone, donated to staff and food-insecurity programs on Kauai during the pandemic.
