Allen's Orchard is a family-owned u-pick apple orchard and farm market north of Marion, Iowa, started in 1969 when Morris and Diane Allen turned a cornfield into an orchard with an order of 200 trees. Its picking list names 25 apple varieties, including Honeycrisp, SnowSweet, EverCrisp, GoldRush and Northern Spy. The farm market sells already-picked apples, cider, donuts, pies and frozen goods with no admission charge, and the orchard books school field trips for children ages 3 to 9.

Autumn Grove Orchard is a pick-your-own apple orchard on the northeast edge of Sioux City, Iowa. Jason and Stephanie Heger planted more than 1,000 trees in spring 2012 and opened the orchard in 2013. It grows eight apple varieties that ripen across the season, sells pumpkins and has a gift shop and concession stand. The orchard usually opens Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm, from Labor Day weekend through the last weekend in October.

The site of the Orchard was purchased by German immigrants, Leonhard and Catherine Degen Brack. The Bracks had met and married in Brooklyn, New York. Their path West took them West to Ontonagon County, Michigan. There, Leonhard worked in the mines. Their first born son, Peter, arrived in 1854. Shortly afterwards, Leonhard left his wife and infant son and traveled by boat to Dubuque, Iowa where he worked in the Mines of Spain. Highway 1, the military highway, surely brought him to Johnson County
