Tongue River Winery grows cold-hardy hybrid grapes on about three acres near Miles City, the only vineyard-and-winery in the eastern three-quarters of Montana. Bob and Marilyn Thaden planted University of Minnesota varieties like Marquette and Frontenac that survive hard prairie winters, plus haskaps, cherries, and apples for fruit wines. Their 2017 Marquette took a Jefferson Cup, a national award. The property also runs as a bed and breakfast.
