The Kerns family has moved cattle between their valley homestead and Bighorn Mountain pastures since 1887, and paying guests now ride along on the real thing. Drives cover 30 to 50 miles across 60,000 acres of grassland, with riders handling actual ranch work rather than a staged tour. Overnights happen in cowboy tipi tents with dutch-oven cooking. Spring, summer, and fall trips run out of Ranchester, near the Montana line.
