Alto Vineyards has grown grapes in the Shawnee Hills since 1988, when founder Guy Renzaglia planted the first vines to revive winemaking in southern Illinois. The Alto Pass winery now pours more than 20 wines and has picked up over 1,000 state, national, and international awards, with a second tasting room in Champaign. It's one of the anchor stops on the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail.
