J.B. Hutt Apiary, run by beekeeper John Hutt on Broad Way in Coventry, removes bees from homes and businesses in addition to keeping hives for honey. Honey is sold in limited quantities from the farm stand when available. This is an appointment-only operation — call ahead rather than dropping by.

East Hartford

Kirk runs Langford Apiary as a backyard beekeeping business in East Hartford, selling raw, strained, and creamed honey alongside bee nucs and beekeeping supplies. His Carniolan queen-breeding program keeps bees off antibiotics and out of chemically sprayed foraging areas. Kirk answers customer questions directly by phone or email rather than through a shop.

Hanover

Stonewall Apiary keeps roughly 350 honeybee colonies scattered across more than a dozen eastern Connecticut towns, from Woodstock down to Mystic. Visitors can book a honey-house tour or a beekeeping presentation by appointment, and the small farm store sells honey and beeswax straight from those hives. Worth noting: GPS routing struggles out here, so the farm posts its own map for directions.

Hanover

Hanover Honey is the retail side of Stonewall Apiary's roughly 350 honeybee colonies spread across eastern Connecticut. The jars range from raw honey to artisanal honeycomb, honey butter, and creamed honey, all untreated and sold through the BuyCTGrown marketplace as well as direct from the farm. Flavor varies jar to jar depending on which forest plants the bees worked that season.

Hampton

Adam and Charlene Fuller founded A & Z Apiaries in Hampton in 1980, and the operation now manages around 200 bee colonies across eastern Connecticut. Each spring they bring in 3-pound packages of Italian-Poline crossed queens from Wilbanks Apiaries in Georgia, shipped by climate-controlled transport in under 18 hours.

Tolland

Bee Haven Apiaries bottles wildflower and local honey with no additives, from hives kept on Stag Trail in Tolland. Their honey turns up on shelves at Ellington Agway and a handful of other regional retailers, alongside direct sales from the farm. It's a small, hands-on operation — the beekeeper who capped the jar is the same one who answers the phone.

Farmington

Jones' Apiaries has kept bees in Farmington since 1997, started by Ted and Becky Jones as a family operation. Beyond bottling small-batch honey, they sell beekeeping supplies and each spring offer nucleus colonies and queens to other beekeepers — order early, since colonies typically sell out by late April. The apiary also provides pollination services to area orchards and gardens.
