Long Branch Environmental Education Center is an ecological sanctuary and small school in Leicester, in Buncombe County's Newfound Mountains about 18 miles northwest of Asheville. It teaches renewable energy, organic food production, and sustainable living, and opens its trails for hiking, birding, and seasonal fruit and nut picking — raspberries, blueberries, chestnuts, and apples among them.
