Jim Cochran and Mark Matze founded Swanton Berry Farm in 1983, and it became the first certified-organic strawberry grower in California. The farm still markets itself as organically grown by union labor, a distinction it's held for decades. U-pick strawberries and olallieberries run seasonally at the Coastways Ranch fields on Highway 1 in Pescadero, with a year-round farm stand up the coast in Davenport.
