Door Creek Orchard is a sustainable heirloom apple orchard just outside Madison in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin — trees rooted in prairie, marsh, and woodland, stewarded alongside wetlands, native grasses, and pollinators because apples belong inside an ecosystem. The Griffith family welcomes visitors to share the fall harvest, September through November.

Fitchburg

Eplegaarden is a pick-your-own apple orchard and pumpkin patch on Fitchburg Road just south of Madison, its Norwegian name and barn-and-pavilion setting nodding to old-country tradition. Visitors pick apples straight from the trees and choose pumpkins from the patch, with cider, cider donuts, and caramel apples at the stand. The barn and pavilion rent out for events, and the farm sells seasoned apple firewood.

Waunakee

Fabrita Orchard grows apples on Hogan Road in Waunakee, just north of Madison in Dane County. Orchards ringing the state capital open for fall picking and farm sales, drawing Madison families out for apples, cider, and the autumn season.

Steffens Cherry Orchard grows cherries on McIntyre Road outside Fort Atkinson, in Jefferson County between Madison and Milwaukee. Southern Wisconsin cherries usually ripen in July. Little is published online, so call ahead for picking dates and whether the fruit is pick-your-own.

Poynette

Lapacek's Orchard grows more than 50 apple varieties across the season on Kroncke Road in Poynette, with free admission to walk the grounds. This is a pre-picked orchard, not u-pick: you buy apples, cider, and cake donuts at the stand rather than picking your own. Kids can visit the goats and climb a tractor-tire playground. It reopens each year around mid-August.

Sutter's Ridge grows 28 apple varieties on a ridge near Mount Horeb, west of Madison, and bakes fresh apple cider donuts daily through the fall. Beyond pick-your-own and pre-picked apples, the farm runs a six-acre pumpkin patch, a five-acre corn maze, a family activity area, and wagon rides out to the pumpkins. Apples and cider start in September, with raspberries earlier in the season. The 2026 season opens August 20.
