Lehman's Orchard farms 55 acres of U-pick fruit on Portage Road in Niles, growing apples, pears, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, wine grapes, and tomatoes. Tart cherries ripen first, around July 4th, with blueberries following in late July. The farm turns its own fruit into wines, hard ciders, relishes, salsas, jams, and fudge, sold at a small on-site market open most days of the week.

Berrien Springs

Bixby Farms has worked the same ground in Berrien Springs for generations, growing strawberries, raspberries and peaches for u-pick alongside asparagus and rhubarb sold at the farm stand. They also jar their own salsas and jams and sell farm-fresh eggs. The family's pitch is simple — a straight line from grower to plate — and the market stays open through the spring-to-fall harvest run.

Shafer Orchards has been in the same Berrien County family for three generations, though it now operates as The Shafer Farm LLC after the Shafers retired and leased the 72 acres to Doug and Suzy Forraht in 2017. U-pick runs five peach varieties in late July and August, then ten apple varieties and Concord grapes into September and October, alongside pumpkins, squash, and gourds.

Hillside Orchards has grown fruit in the Berrien Springs area of Michigan's fruit belt since 1836. The family orchard produces apples, peaches, nectarines, apricots, sweet cherries, and chestnuts, with sweet cherries ready in late June and apples holding through March. This is not a u-pick operation — the orchard sells through USDA-certified channels and supplies markets as far as Chicago.

Twin Maple Orchard grows fruit on Cleveland Avenue in Glendora, just outside Galien in Michigan's southwest corner, offering u-pick harvesting and fresh produce sold at local farmers markets seven days a week from 10am to 6pm during the season. The farm also welcomes RV travelers through the Harvest Hosts network. Call ahead for which fruits are ready to pick.

Diamond Lake Orchard runs as a self-serve apple shed and small fruit winery near Cassopolis, open daily from 10 to 6 once the season starts in late August. Thirteen apple varieties come through as they ripen — Honeycrisp, Gala, and Jonathan among them — alongside honey, cider, and hard cider. Weekend wine tastings run Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and this season brings the orchard's first estate wine from vines planted four years ago.

Jollay Orchards has grown fruit on the same Coloma land since 1857, now in its eighth generation of family ownership. Summer brings U-pick cherries, blueberries, and peaches; apples and grapes take over by fall, alongside a farm shop selling fresh donuts, apple-cherry spread, and pumpkin butter. Hayrides and a corn maze round out a season that runs June through November.

Corey Lake Orchards has farmed 150 acres of orchards, vineyards, and fields since 1961. The farm presses heritage apples into hard cider, ferments its own wines and spirits, and bakes fruit pies and donuts on-site alongside blueberries, strawberries, and a full run of vegetables. It calls itself a marketplace for locally grown and locally made goods, and the shelves back that up with products from other regional producers too.

Known locally as Kercher's, Sunrise Orchards has farmed 300 acres in Goshen for more than a century, growing sweet corn, pumpkins, 19 apple varieties, cabbage, squash, and peaches. The farm market also carries honey, maple syrup, noodles, cheese, meat, jam, cider, and apple butter, plus baked goods from the on-site kitchen. Fall brings u-pick apples and pumpkins, hayrides, and a corn maze.
