Watertown

Mindemann Farms in Watertown, Wisconsin raises purebred Angus — the highest-marbling breed — in small groups on grain and hay without artificial hormones or antibiotics, alongside 1,900 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, and hay. Freezer beef sells as halves and quarters (dry-aged about two weeks at a state-inspected locker), with lean ground beef available year-round.

Cottage Grove

Weber Pastures began when Bill Weber turned a Cottage Grove cornfield into ponds and pasture — then came home from a 2008 Thanksgiving auction with four cows and calves and never looked back. Modeled on Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm, the Madison-area operation now runs about 60 head of grass-fed beef, "way too many chickens to count," and pigs, on sun, grass, and water.

Miller Brothers Grass Farm was formed in 2006 by Luke and Mark Miller, who converted cropland in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin into pasture as part of their larger family farming operation. The first cattle arrived that October and have happily eaten forages ever since — 100% grass-fed beef raised with complete control from pasture to plate, wholesome and reasonably priced.

Cox Hill Farm is Caitlin and Reed Cox's small family farm in Brooklyn, Wisconsin, pasture-raising chicken, turkey, and pigs with regenerative practices — the pasture feeds the animals, the animals feed the land. Livestock move regularly to fresh forage with local non-GMO supplemental feed and no antibiotics, steroids, or hormones, sold via CSA, delivery, and pickup locations.
